The Ontario chapter of the eastern region of the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers (ERRAPA) invites you to submit a proposal for a presentation at the ERRAPA Annual Conference to be held in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada from September 30 to October 3, 2007.
Theme
The Ottawa conference is being hosted in Canada’s capital city and appropriate for the times, the theme has been selected as generating ideas for “Sustainable Resource Management” in the broadest sense. The role and responsibility of facility professionals to enable truly sustainable building projects and operations will be the ongoing challenge for the coming decades. ERAPPA 2007 is committed to provide training opportunities on several levels at the Annual Meeting from September 30 to October 3, 2007.
Audience
Attendance at this annual conference will include approximately 500 higher education facilities management professionals and business partners from eastern Canada and the northeastern United States. Sessions will be 60 minutes in length and should allow adequate time for questions. Typically, the presentation should be developed for groups of 30–75 attendees. Business partners are encouraged to team up with member institutions for joint presentations.
Presentation Topics
Presentations should be related to the theme of “Capital Ideas for Sustainable Resource Management”. The conference committee will be looking to offer a balanced program based along four (4) educational tracks; Capital Ideas, Sustainability, Resource Management, and Special Topics. Some possible topics include:
- New funding ideas for capital development
- Sustainability in new building design
- Adapting renovation projects to sustainability principles
- Leadership development strategies in facility organizations
- Implementing innovative staffing standards
- Short-term adaptations for long-term master planning
- Revisiting the 3 R’s (Reduce/Reuse/Recycle) for greener campuses
- Innovative programs that deal with:
- Safety
- Service improvement
- Involvement of students in sustainability
- initiatives
- Benchmarking
Selection Process
Presentations from both ERAPPA member institutions and business partners are encouraged, yet it should be noted that preference will be given to non-proprietary presentations. Member institutions and business partners are encouraged to create joint presentations that reflect the partnership and implementation of ideas and/or projects. The Education Committee will review submissions and selection will be based on the following:
- Relevance to the conference theme
- Timeliness of the topic to educational facilities management
- Qualification of the presenter(s)
- Innovation in our areas of interest
conceptually and/or technically
- Overall quality
ERAPPA is an organization of facility professionals who have solid, but varied background in facility management. Presenters should assume basic audience knowledge and focus on innovations as it relates to technology and management practices, problem-solving and issues of general interest. Honoraria or expenses are not normally provided and presenters are encouraged to register for the conference and be a part of our networking opportunities.
